CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids man charged with killing his pregnant girlfriend in 2020 was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Friday for Second-Degree Murder.

Johnnie Osborne IV, 28, had pleaded guilty in March to Second-Degree Murder, Termination of a Human Pregnancy and Attempted Murder for the May 1, 2020 killing of his girlfriend Asia Grice.

Osborne shot Grice, who was pregnant at the time, and her friend at 1610 30th Street N.W. He was originally charged with First Degree Murder.

Osborne was also sentenced to 10 years on the Termination of a Human Pregnancy charge and 25 years on the Attempted Murder charge, but all sentences will run concurrently. He will serve 35 years of mandatory time before being eligible for parole.

According to a criminal complaint, police found Grice's body after she was shot in the head and killed. Police say she was in her second trimester of pregnancy and her unborn child also died in the shooting.

Officers also discovered Keonna Smith, the tenant of the apartment, had been shot as well. Smith reported hearing shots from another room and then Osborne came into her room and shot her several times.

Smith has said that she was seriously injured from being shot in the head and had temporarily lost all mobility in her left side. The criminal complaint states that she had been letting Osborne and Grice stay with her.

On Friday, victim impact statements were made by Smith, Grice's parents, and her siblings.

Osborne has also been ordered to pay $150,000 to Asia Grice’s parents.
