election day is coming up next week.. which has many government employees and volunteers working overtime to make sure the day goes on without a hitch. kimt news three's annalisa pardo tells us how olmsted county board of elections is preparing for the big day. for many of us, election day means a few moments at a voting station. but for employees with olmsted county, it means planning months in advance. it's like planning a giant wedding like a wedding, olmsted county elections manager heather bestler tells us preparing for voting day is no easy task with so many moving parts. <we have a lot of things in motion right now, we have head judges picking up their supplies out for the polling places, we're opening the ballot envelopes,we'r e processing people who are getting through to do their voting here, we're also processing any invitiations we're getting in.> to get all the jobs done, the office has 20 extra staff on hand. they help us process all the ballots we've received in. which as of wednesday is 16 thousand 4 hundred and thirdyáone ballots... just as many as the 20á16 (presidential election. less than a week out from election day, county officals can now open received absentee ballots to look for write in candidates, but votes cant( be counted. we're not actually allowed to hit count until 8 pá m on election day. meaning despite all the prepáwork, the biggest hurdle is still ahead á election day. it's stressful at times, but it's fun and very rewarding. workers at polling places say they're seeing a major uptick in early voting and are expecting a big turnáout on election day. we'll break down the numbers in the next few minutes.
