the city of rochester is projected to grow substantially in the coming years... and before it does á one committee wants to improve the way they designate the buildings they believe are landmarks to the area. live kimt news 3's brooke mckivergan attended the heritage preservation meeting tonight and joins us live with the changes now. brooke?/// in may we told you schmitt auto was put on the heritage preservation's potential list for local historic landmarks. now á the way they go about getting that designation is changing.xxx the heritage preservation commission is making an application for those on the 'potential landmark list' to fill out in hopes of becoming a local landmark. the process of getting on that list isn't changing... you still have to fill out an application... but now á once you're on the list á you can fill out another application to be named a local landmark. the point of the change is to give our local committee the power to deem a property a landmark. schmitt's auto is already in the middle of this process now.. and the chair of the committee says its important to have a property to actually work with as they go through changes. "establishing the appropriate paperwork and steps as we go. the steps are outlined in the ordinance but some of the details of how they happen, we need to work out locally by actually working through them with interested property owners." it's important to note this designation will only be (local. there is a national committee that decides what can or cannot be designated a national landmark. reporting live in rochester brooke mckivergan kimt news 3./// thank you brooke. and looking ahead to the bigger picture... at the november heritage preservation meeting á the commission will get a more detailed draft of the upcoming historic district boundary changes. /// it's a loss no business owner wants to experience... coming in to start the day and finding your business has been robbed. that's what happened to this mom and pop caf! in pine island. shawna kranz is the owner of shawna's caf!... she says she walked in early monday morning á and saw glass all over
