good afternoon! thank you for joining us for middayáái'm arielle harrison. happening nowá á hurricane michael is racing toward the florida panhandle. the storm is expected to make landfall in the next few hours as the strongest hurricane to ever come ashore in the area. live nikole killion joins us live from panama city beach, florida for an update on the storm. nikole. cbs live feed cbs live feed regional pkg 10 10 giant waves are thrashing florida's panama city beach as michael takes aim at the panhandle. the storm strenghtened overnight. unfortunately, michael is a hurricane of the worst kind. // major hurricanes cause large losses of life. forecasters are most worried about a probable 13á foot storm surge. when that storm surge comes in you have no control over it. there's so much pressure. it pushes everything in and sucks everything out. michael is also expected to dump more than a foot of rain and lash the area with145ámile per hour sustained winds. nearly 400á thousand people along the gulf coast were urged to evacuate. but officials warn, time has run out. you've waited too long. you've got to hunker down, you've got to get shelter as quick as you can. for the most part, people have heeded warnings. but some are hurricane michael already left its mark on parts of central america. at least 13 people across el salvador, honduras and nicaragua are dead. the storm dumped nearly a foot of rain on cuba./// (talk about hurricane and transition into local weather) let's check in with storm team 3 meteorologist jon rivas.... (((first look at weather((( today: mostly cloudy/windy highs: falling throughout the day. winds: southwest becoming west at 15 to 20 mph. tonight: mostly cloudy/windy. lows: lower 30's. authorities are investigating a stabbing at a pure pleasure location in southern minnesota early this morning. this video from the scene today.... this is the store off iá90... in stewartville. police tell us an employee was stabbed in the leg... trying to apprehend a shoplifter this morning around 7. two employees were at the store when the antiátheft alarm went off as a male was exiting. the suspect took out a cologne tester from his pocket before taking off through the back door. a male employee chased after him and was stabbed in the leg. officials say a woman picked up the male suspect and fled the scene in a gold car with a possible broken window. suspects are described as a white male.... with scruffy facial hair... around 5áfootá 9 inches tall and 30áyears old. the second desciption... a white female... heavier set with multiá colored hair. the employee was transported to st. mary's hospital with a stab wound. stay with kimt for the latest... we are closely following this story today and will have more information for you later on today.// mason city police are giving more details into the search for alonzo higgins... who was reported missing over the weekend. police say his disappearence has some unusual circumstances. .. now police are sharing those details... they say they know higgins boarded a bus to minneapolis for a church seminar... and add hed expressed paranoid beliefs in a letter sent sometime last week. higgins (does( have a medical condition that police believe could be contributing to his disappearance.. . adding he is (not( a danger to others... but could be taken advantage of. if you know anything... please contact mason city police./// uás congressman and democratic candidate for attorney general, keith ellison is hosting a roundátable talk today with local workers. he'll discuss how, if elected, he can keep more money in worker's pockets and ensure fair pay... the roundtable event starts today at 1á30 so in just over an hour... kimt news three will be there and well have full coverage for you coming up in our later newscasts. this roundtable is taking place at "laborers local 405" on 2nd ave southeast./// a former kasson police officer is going to trial for child sexual abuse. julio baez is accused of abusing three girls under the age of 16 for years in three different southern minnesota counties. tuesday in a rice county courtroom,... baez asked for a jury trial. a judge says that will start in janurary next year. baez has yet to enter a plea in the dodge and olmsted county cases. still to come on middayáá find out why you'll see lots of pink today and what you can do to help fight one of the deadliest
