katie lange. we're continuing our team election coverage tonight... a little more than 3 weeks away from the november election. candidates for olmsted county commissioner took the floor this evening... answering voters questions about pressing community issues. kimt news 3's brooke mckivergan just returned from the forum... brooke á what does a commissioner oversee? xxx katie, county commissioners have a lot of their plates... they approve budgets, and oversee spending in the county. and tonight, our 2 candidates were in the hot seat to answer pressing questions by the community. here's one question, and both candidates answers. "what are your priorities for funding county programs in the face of rising costs? what do you see as the major challenges and where do you see opportunities for change?" "one of the biggest mistakes our state did many years ago was close the state hospital not that it was the perfect insitiution but there was no place for a lot of these people to go they have ended up in our county jail ended up homeless so we need to reverse that trend." "having the ability to have a secure place to stay is something that every person needs and it is something that our society really needs to and just a reminder, you can vote on either of these two candidates on november 6th. thank you brooke. if you're interested in learning more about other local races... rochester mayoral candidates kim norton and charlie o'connell will take the podium tomorrow at 6:30... and city council ward three candidates nick campion and arlo kroening are set to debate at 7:30. both of the forums will be held at the rochester public library.
