hours ago it was decided... after months of discussion... we now know the new location of the albert lea fire department. it was a close vote this evening... as the albert lea city council voted 4 to 3... in favor of the more information about the new newton location kimt news 3's brooke mckivergan joins us live in studio... brooke it was a quiet turnout at tonight's katie ? yeah ? it was a very different scene than at the last council meeting when it was a packed room ? as people let their voices be heard ... in favor of and against the proposed locations. but tonight, not one community member was present to make their voice heard "i would move to select the newton site. so councelor baker would like to move forawrd with the newton site, do we have a second? second." and just like that this is the site of albert lea's newest fire station. on the corner of pearl street and newton avenue. the council made their decision shortly after hearing the opinion of the public safety director who suggested the newton site. "the benefit of having the fire department across the street from the current government center to me is tremendous as far as command and control purposes." he says it makes the most sense to be close. "day to day operations or unfortunately if there's an emergency operation the convieneve of being located essentially right across the hallway from each other for both the city of albert lea police department and the fire department and to include the freeborn county sheriffs the newton site is priced at just over 9 million dollars, of course that number is flexible because they haven't received bids yet. thank you brooke. they will begin receiving bids on the project on
