excessive speeding. people in ventura, iowa say it's an ongoing problem on a certain street. and they want to put a permanent fix to it. kimt news 3's katie huinker joins us live to explain... katie? tyler and arielle... the speed limit here on "west & east lake street" in ventura is 25 miles per hour... but many say it's common to see vehicles go much faster. so to slow people down, the clear lake police department, which patrols the city of ventura, put up a speed monitoring system... to track speeders with cameras. again, residents say people driving too fast on "west & east lake street" is common... and has been an ongoing issue. recently, the city's mayor says a "speed table" was put in... which is what you see here... and is basically a wider speed bump to force drivers to slow down. he says it should help, but there are some other concerns that need to be addressed, too. "when you come up from the lake to cross the road, that's definitely a blindside corner, so it makes it real risky for especially young kids. parents have gotta make sure they got their hands on 'em so that they don't step out on the street without checking it because they definitely can be come cruising around there." and going back to the "speed table" i mentioned earlier... which is again, basically a wider speed bump... mayor schmit says it's being used on a "trial basis." and the city is asking residents for feedback to possibly add more, if they help. thank you, katie. and what helped to push something to be done about the speeding... was a recent petition that was given to the ventura city council late last month, urging council members to control
