we have an update to a story we've been following here on kimt ? it has to do with the controversy surrounding a proposed indoor gun range. last spring plans for the heartland gun club and range in rochester were put on hold after neighbors living near the proposed site raised a ruckus about the location and safety of the facility. the city council took action to update its indoor gun range ordinance to address some of the concerns. then in december the city council approved the conditional use permit for an indoor gun range off of commercial drive in southwest rochester. kimt news three's deedee stiepan is looking into what's been done since and is checking back with neighbors to see if they feel their concerns were addressed. i'm here at the future site of the heartland gun club and range ? as you can see there's a sign up ? but not much else. and neighbors i've talked to say they haven't seen much activity here in recent months. we did learn that in february ? two acers of this land were purchased by "heartland gun club llc" for 625?thousand dollars. i did attempt to contact someone from the group to see when they might begin construction on the project but was unsuccessful. bruce blatti lives in the neighborhood that's just 500 feet away from the site. he tells me for the most part ? concerned citizens were pleased about the council putting their foot down and not allowing indoor gun ranges to serve alcohol. however many are still uncomfortable that distance requirements were not included in the new ordinance. blatti feels the concerns of the citizens weren't fully heard by the ward 1 council member ed hruska. he hopes whoever is voted in to replace hruska this fall is a true advocate for the people he or she will represent ? and prioritize the people over corporations.// / "we hope that the new city council members whether they're from ward one or any other ward plus our mayor would actively pursuit the interest of the residents and support us. don't mind the politics of it do what's right for the neighborhood." blatti and other residents in ward one will get the opportunity to meet the four people running for the open city council seat tonight during a primary candidate forum. one issue that will likely be brought up is the issue of the gun range. live in rochester deedee stiepan thanks deedee. the ward one city council primary candidate forum and debate is happeninig tonight at 6?30 at the rochester public library.
