a new movie theater that promises to be more like a "coffee shop" than a "cineplex" will be opening in our area. gray duck theater will be opening this fall in the "cooke park design district" in northwest rochester. owner and operator andy smith wanted to bring the film culture he missed in los angeles to his new home in rochester. he tells us this will be a different kind of movie?going experience than many of us are used to. instead of showing big budget popcorn movies ? the focus will be on local films. and instead of being rushed out of the the theater ? smith says people will be encouraged to stick around for post?film discussions. "we want people to be able to come, see the movie and then stay; get a beer, get a second popcorn even if you're not going into the theater and talk about this a little more. everyone loves talking about movies; it's instinctive even if you hate a movie, you want to say why you hated it or "why did they do this," right? so we want them to have those conversations here with us." opening night will be this fall and they'll kick things off with a screening of the charlie chaplin film "gold rush". we have more info about how you can support gray duck theater on kimt dot com. with this story under local news.///
