CLARION, Iowa – A Wright County woman is going to prison for a burglary involving dozens of guns and thousands of dollars in stolen property.
Tina Renee Smith, 38 of Belmond, was charged in April 2017 with 1st degree theft, 2nd degree burglary, and 3rd degree arson. Authorities say Smith robbed an empty home in the 1300 block of Reed Avenue in Belmond in December 2016. She’s accused of stealing about 30 guns, silver and gold antique housewares, coins, ammunition, jewelry, tools, art, clocks, and food and beverages.
Court documents state the items stolen were worth over $10,000 combined.
In addition, authorities say Smith tried to set a fire and burn down the home after robbing it but the building did not catch fire.
Smith eventually pleaded guilty to 2nd degree theft and was sentenced Wednesday to up to five years in prison, with credit for time served, and must pay restitution to her victim.
