...Thin Heavy Band of Snow to Persist over Northern Iowa... .A fast moving system has produce a thin heavy band of snow over portions of northern Iowa. Within this band, 2 to 5 inches with a few isolated higher possible by the late evening. Generally 1 to 3 inches are anticipated further east and south. Visibility may be reduced to less than a mile within this heavier band. Winds are forecast to increase, especially for areas west of Highway 169, but likely after the snow has ended. Regardless, the combination of winds and fresh snow on the ground may cause some blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially in rural areas. ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CST THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch.

* WHERE...Far northern Iowa to northeast Iowa.

* WHEN...Until 9 PM CST this evening.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions that will create a slower than normal afternoon and evening commute. Allow more time to reach your destination.

...Slick Travel Across North-Central and Northeast Iowa This Evening... .A slow-moving band of moderate to occasionally heavy snow continues to pivot over portions of north-central and northeast Iowa this evening. County dispatch centers have reported several accidents and slide-offs due to snow-covered, slick roads. An additional 1 to 2 inches of snowfall is expected before the accumulating snow drifts southward by late evening. Visibility has been poor within the heaviest snowfall, down to a half mile at times. If traveling this evening, be alert for slippery road conditions and poor visibility. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination. ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CST TONIGHT...

* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches.

* WHERE...Portions of north central and northeast Iowa.

* WHEN...Until midnight CST tonight.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...County dispatch centers have reported several vehicle accidents and slide-offs this evening. Roads are snow-covered and slick. Visibility is also poor within the band of heaviest snow, down to a half mile at times.

An additional accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible within this thin band from south of Algona to Dakota City east to Mason City south to Hampton. Reduced visibility from to less than a mile within this heavier band of snow is likely. Elsewhere, 1 to 3 inches are possible by the late evening. mounts in a few spots possible. Winds are expected to increase later this evening, but likely after the snow has ended. Still, some blowing snow is possible along with reduced visibility.
