Winter Weather Advisory for many southern MN, northern Iowa counties throughout Monday

A wintry mix of rain, freezing drizzle, and snow will transition to snow along and north of Interstate 90 by late morning and during the early afternoon for the remainder of the area.

...Accumulating Snow Expected from Late Morning until Midnight Tonight... .A wintry mix of rain, freezing drizzle, and snow will transition to snow along and north of Interstate 90 by late morning and during the early afternoon for the remainder of the area. There may be a light glaze this morning. The greatest threat will be on ridge tops in western Wisconsin and in southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa. The highest snow totals will be in central and north-central Wisconsin where 5 to 8 inches are expected. The snow totals will then decrease to the southwest. Be prepared for slick, potentially difficult travel conditions through tonight. The afternoon commute will be impacted by snow covered roads. These impacts may continue into Tuesday morning especially on secondary roads. ...ONE LAST ROUND OF WINTRY PRECIPITATION TODAY AND THIS EVENING BEFORE THE SYSTEM FINALLY DEPARTS... .A band of rain coming out of southern and eastern Wisconsin will move into west central Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota early this morning. It will transition from rain to snow as it moves west across western Wisconsin, with mostly snow expected. Some rain or drizzle could mix in with the snow at times in west central Wisconsin this morning. Precipitation will quickly diminish from north to south between 8 pm and midnight this evening. Snow accumulation will range from 4 to 7 inches generally along and east of I-35, with amounts gradually tapering down to around an inch near the South Dakota border. Northwest winds will increase today and continue tonight with gusts of 35 to 40 mph possible, causing areas of blowing snow. This evening's commute is expected to be severely impacted. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through this evening for all of western Wisconsin and Chisago County in Minnesota.
