NWS LaCrosse (Southwestern Wisconsin, Southeastern Minnesota, and Northeast Iowa)
...Heavy Snow Will Lead to Dangerous Travel Today... .A winter storm will bring heavy snow to the area with a band of 8 to 11 inches along and north of Interstate 90. Locally higher amounts possible. In addition, snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are likely in these areas. To the north and south of the heavy band, totals will generally be in the 3 to 6 inch range, with the possibility of some light icing in northeast Iowa and far southwest Wisconsin as the snow comes to an end this afternoon. Travel will quickly become difficult as snow moves in and will become dangerous in areas receiving the heaviest snow. Some roads could possibly become impassable. Delay or avoid travel if you can. The snowfall rates will be moderate to heavy at times yet this morning, leading to a quick deterioration in travel conditions over far northern Iowa. Snow accumulations will be mainly confined to areas north of Highway 20. A transition to freezing drizzle or freezing rain may occur early this morning and may cause some minor ice accumulations north of Highway 30. Increasing north wind today may lead to some blowing and drifting of snow especially in far northern Iowa where less freezing drizzle and rain occurs. ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM CST THIS AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches and light ice accumulations.

...HEAVY SNOW EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE MORNING FOR AREAS SOUTH OF A LINE FROM MADISON TO THE TWIN CITIES TO EAU CLAIRE... ...SNOW TOTALS WILL DROP OFF RAPIDLY NORTH OF THAT LINE... .A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through about midday for much of southern Minnesota into Wisconsin. The warning is in effect along and south of a line from Madison, to the Twin Cities, to Eau Claire. Total snowfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches are expected in the warning area, with the best chance for a foot in a corridor from Canby, to Redwood Falls, to Mankato, to Rochester. Meanwhile, farther to the north, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect north of the Winter Storm Warning up to a line from Benson, to Monticello, to Balsam Lake. The advisory includes the northern Twin Cities suburbs. Totals in this area will vary from 2 to 4 inches. Snowfall rates could reach 1 to 2 inches per hour in the warning area, with even a few thunderstorms possible in the heaviest snow bands as has been noted across southwestern Minnesota early this morning. ...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TODAY...
