NORTHWOOD, Iowa- The Northwood-Kensett Vikings have started their season off hot scoring 135 points in their first three wins of the season.
“We go down and we score,” said quarterback Logan Benjegerdes.
But it isn’t just the offense: the team seems to be firing on all cylinders with the defense only giving up one touchdown this season.
“Someone finally scored against us and we didn’t know what to do,” said tight guard Gavin Varner.
While Varner said they knew it would eventually happen, the rock-solid defense didn’t start just this season.
“We had one senior from defense graduate last season,” Varner said.
For Benjegerdes, this defense is making his job a lot easier.
“We get the running game stopped; we force the team to pass and the defense gets us the ball back,” he said.
The team is looking and feeling good about their start, but they still want to keep their focus on the game ahead of them.
“Week by week, we are inching forward,” he said. “This week he have North Iowa and we’ll see how we do against them.”
Offense, defense clicking early for 8-man squad.
