CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - A vacant home in rural Clear Lake is a total loss after a fire. More than two dozen first responders were called to 230th and Jonquil around 8:20 Saturday evening.
According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office, no one has lived on the property for the last couple of months. There's a second house on the property that has not caught fire.
Power and gas were still on when first responders arrived.
"Upon arrival of the first responding units the house was completely involved in fire and was threatening an adjacent house on the same property. Efforts were made to protect this adjacent house. Both homes on the property were vacant at the time of the fire. There were no injuries. Cause of the fire is under investigation. Also assisting at the scene were Alliant Energy and the Cerro Gordo County Sherriff’s Office. Damage is estimated at $80,000," fire officials said.
