MASON CITY, Iowa- Two local women are speaking out after they said they were followed around Walmart in Mason City Sunday.
“It deters me from going anywhere,” said Kathy Hauge-Struecker of Burt.
Kathy and Halie Hauge-Struecker said five Hispanic males followed them around the store for around 45 minutes through multiple aisles, but it wasn’t until they cut their grocery trip short that they were positive the group of men were following them around the store.
“We didn’t feel comfortable walking to our car alone,” said Halie. “We immediately went to customer service and told them what was going on. We got an escort to our car and right away they got on their pagers and started giving a small description of the men and their location.”
Halie said Walmart employees told her they would contact police, but when we called Tuesday management told us they had no record of this incident happening. Now Halie wishes she would have called herself.
“If you feel like you’re going through this, take it up with police,” she said. “Don’t leave it in the hands of someone else.”
Halie explained that she has been in touch with police to explain what happened and give a description of those she said were following her.
