OSAGE, Iowa – The men arrested for the damage done to a cabin at Pinicon Alders Wildlife Area are pleading not guilty.
Jon Crews, 27 of Waltham, Minnesota, is charged with 1st degree criminal mischief. Authorities say he was driving a vehicle on March 13 that smashed into the cabin, destroying a handicap ramp and knocking the cabin off two of its supports. Crews is also accused of running over several signs, damaging a barb wire fence, and running into and destroying at wooden outhouse.
Ryan Lynn Root, 28 of Riceville, is charged with accessory to a felony and obstructing prosecution. Authorities say that after Crews’ rampage, Root helped him tow his damaged vehicle to the home of Root’s mother in Stacyville. Root is also accused of refusing to cooperate with law enforcement in their investigation.
Both Crews and Root are scheduled to stand trial on September 12.
