ROCHESTER, Minn. - They are much more than just a pet to many.
"These dogs, when you have them as family members, they just crawl into your heart."

Pam Miller started baking homemade dog treats, using human-approved ingredients, to manage the grief of losing her dog, Boo. After her treats gained popularity amongst friends, she started Bone Appetit Canine Bakery out of her kitchen in 1999. She eventually moved her business into a brick-and-mortar building in Austin.

In recent years, she moved the business back to Rochester and is now a mobile bakery re-named BACB Unleashed. She sells homemade treats and other dog merchandise out of her van at various pet-related events. "I go where the dogs go," she says.

She has owned four rescue dogs, and her current CEO (Canine Executive Officer) of the bakery is named Jackson. He was rescued from a high-kill shelter in the South, and Miller adopted him about four years ago.

"That face. It was his face that just caught me. The quirkiness of his ears, and just the personality. I thought, I could provide him with a good home."

Miller and Jackson enjoyed National Pet Day on Wednesday by practicing some tricks and enjoying some homemade dog treats.
