AUSTIN, Minn. – Two teens are facing possible charges for a robbery involving a knife and a BB gun.
Austin police officers were called to the 200 block of 2nd Street SE around 7:35 pm Tuesday. A 17-year-old and a 15-year-old were having an argument outside a home when the 15-year-old saw an iPhone sitting on top of an outdoor table and allegedly took it, saying “this is my phone now.”
Police say the confrontation got more heated and the 15-year-old took out a knife and started making threats while waving it around. One of the juveniles then ran inside the home to get his father, who owned the iPhone that police say had been taken.
According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, the father tried to hold the 15-year-old to keep him from leaving while police were called. That’s when the 17-year-old is accused of shooting the man twice in the back with a pink and black BB gun. According to police, the BBs broke the skin and left marks.
The 17- and 15-year-olds were arrested and police say a knife was found thrown in the grass. Both suspects have been taken to the Many Rivers Juvenile Detention Center in Rochester.
