CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - Despite today's weather, plenty of anglers dipped their lines in Clear Lake hoping to reel in a big one at the "Take a Kid Fishing" tournament on Saturday.

The family-friendly tournament invited teams of one adult and up to two children ages 16 and under to catch a fish. Anglers were allowed to cast a line from either a boat or on the shoreline, and the event focused on fun rather than competition.

Wyatt Ritter of Rockford hopes tournaments like this get more kids hooked on fishing.

"It gets kids off the screens at home, and outside," Ritter says.

Saturday's event coincided with the free fishing weekend open to all Iowa residents.
