UPDATE: Home saved after garage fire in NW Rochester

Flames caused about $25,000 damage.

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Fire caused about $25,000 in damage to a garage in the 3400 block of Chalet View Lane NW Saturday evening.

The Rochester Fire Department was called to the scene around 9 pm and firefighters say they arrived to find most of the flames had already been extinguished by the resident of the home attached to the garage.  After the fire was completely put out, firefighters ventilated the attached home to get rid of smoke and gases produced by the fire.  Flames never reached the home itself.

Three people were in the house sleeping when the fire started, a father and his two children, but no one was injured in this incident and the cause of the fire is under investigation.  The homeowner says he hoticed the power went off and saw the flames when he went outside to find out why.
