CERRO GORDO COUNTY, Iowa - A Ventura fire truck was involved in a rollover accident Saturday night.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 9:34 p.m. Saturday at Balsam Ave. and 170th St.
Doug Phinney, 65, was operating a 2000 Freightliner fire truck belonging to the Ventura Protective Association after leaving the scene of a fire.
Authorities said the fire truck was turning north onto Balsam Ave. from 170th St. when the turn was taken too short and the vehicle rolled into its top in the ditch.
Phinney was taken hospital to the hospital by Clear Lake Ambulance for minor injuries.
Two days after the crash, on Monday, the department is starting to work with the insurance company for a total cost of damage.
Ventura Fire Captain Chuck Shropshire says that the department still has enough vehicles to respond to an emergency.
"We have the one engine and then we have an older engine that we use for water more than anything, and then a grass truck, so we have three other rigs in the station."
In addition, they are looking to see if any equipment from the truck could still be usable.
"With the different types of equipment that are on our trucks, there's some that probably are going to need to be tested. We'll have to look everything over and make sure everything is up to par."
