OSAGE, Iowa – More charges have been filed against a man convicted of attempted murder.

52-year-old Mark Bernard Retterath of Osage is currently serving 35 years in state prison after being found guilty of attempted murder, solicitation to commit murder and 3rd degree sexual abuse. Prosecutors say Retterath plotted to kill his abuse victim with some homemade poison.

He stood trial in August 2016 and was sentenced in October.

Retterath is now facing another trial on June 6 on charges of 3rd degree sexual abuse and sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist. He is accused of performing sex acts against the will of the alleged victim on at least five occasions in the summer of 2015. This occurred during the time the alleged victim attended an Alcoholics Anonymous group where Retterath served as an officer.

Retterath has filed an appeal of his attempted murder, solicitation and sex abuse convictions and that case is still pending.
