MASON CITY, Iowa - Virginia Balmer will tell you she's on Medicare.
“I don't really think about it because my husband handles it all,” Balmer said.
When asked if she's ever looked into Medicare savings programs, she responded no but says she'd be up for it.
“In emergency you might not have that money on hand to cover that,” Balmer said.
What you need to realize as we grow old we may not have a steady income like we did in the past so saving money in different ways could come in handy. Ask Kim Doughty with Elderbridge Agency on Aging, who's all about finding out if one qualifies to save.
“It could save them a ton of money, just a Medicare premium loan is a hundred and 30 dollars a month and if you get them on QMB you don't need to get them on a supplement so we could be talking $500, $600 an month in income,” Doughty said.
