OSAGE, Iowa – A new trial date has been set for a man convicted of attempted murder.
53-year-old Mark Bernard Retterath of Osage is charged with 3rd degree sexual abuse and sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist. Authorities say that when the victim attended an Alcoholics Anonymous group where Retterath served as an officer in the summer of 2015, Retterath performed sex acts against the will of the victim at least five times.
A trial was going to start November 13 in Mitchell County. It has now been rescheduled for May 21, 2018 and the judge has granted Retterath’s request to have it moved to another county. The new location has not been decided.
Retterath is currently serving up to 35 years in prison after he was found guilty of sexually abusing someone and then trying to murder his victim with homemade poison.
