ROCHESTER, Minn. – A woman was stabbed by an unknown male while protecting some children Tuesday afternoon.
The Rochester Police Department says officers were called to the area of 18th Avenue SW and Folwell Drive SW around 3 pm after a 24-year-old woman was stabbed in the back.

David Galvan
Police have identified the man as David Daniel Galvan, 28, and say a long, pointed pair of scissors was found in his waistband.
Galvan has been arrested 26 times in the last two years, police said Wednesday.
The woman was walking with a small group of children after being at a nearby park.
Police say the woman saw a male on the opposite side of the street, who then crossed the street and approached the woman and the children from behind. Police say when the man got close to the group, he started swinging his arms and a bag that he was carrying at them.
Officers say the woman put herself in between the man and the children and got stabbed in the back with what was described as a long, shiny metal object.
The woman was taken by ambulance to St. Marys Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police say the woman could still walk after the attack and assisted officers when they arrived on the scene.
Police say the man left the area and was found in the 600 block of Memorial Parkway SW, where he was arrested without incident.
Authorities say Galvan has had numerous contacts with Rochester police in the past and is being held at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center. A complete list of the charges against him is still being determined.
Correction: An earlier version of the story identified the woman stabbed as an employee of Rochester Public Schools. That information from the Rochester Police Department turned out to incorrect. The children involved in the incident were also not students of Rochester Public Schools.
