MASON CITY, Iowa - July 7th officially marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of the North Iowa Youth Center, and they're inviting the community to celebrate.
The 20th anniversary celebration will be held Sunday afternoon from 1-4 at East Park's Prairie Playground in Mason City, and is free to the public. There will be refreshments, face painting, balloon animals, craft booths, door prizes, game trailers and more.
Regan Banks has been in charge of the center since the beginning, and notes that many kids that have come through the center now have kids of their own that come to the center.
"It's like being a school bus driver. You got the kids and you see their kids, so it's a great impact what we have done to North Iowa. We just want to say thank you to everybody that made this all happen. We couldn't have done it without you, and it takes a community to raise our kids," Banks said. "Thank you to all the volunteers that help us as well, and the sponsors that keep us going. Without the kids and the families and the community, we couldn't have done it without them."
Also in attendance at the celebration will be members of the Mason City Fire and Police Departments, Highway Patrol officers, and players from the North Iowa Bulls.
