NORA SPINGS, Iowa - While trick or treaters hit the streets Wednesday, one local dad was taking the extra steps to make sure his young son with Spina bifida isn’t missing out in the festivities.
Dan Young of Nora Springs surprised his son Michael with his school bus costume, which he built himself. It comes complete with working lights, signs and a wheelchair for Michael.
Michael said he never thought he would dress as a school bus.
“I’m running out of options,” he said.
He is happy to be able to go around his neighborhood giving out candy to others since he doesn’t like candy himself.
Young said it took around a month to complete the costume, but said the effort is all worth it.
“I know we are getting close to the end of doing this,” he said. “We might have one or two more years left before he feels like he is too old.”
Creative idea helps Young family enjoy Halloween.
