The Newman Catholic Knights are not going to be able to play football this Friday night.
The Knights were scheduled to play on the road at Starmont High School which announced earlier Wednesday, "due to excessive injuries, the homecoming football game has been cancelled. Crowning of the homecoming king and queen will take place during tthe pep assembly on Friday at 2:30."
The cancellation comes at an inconvenient time for the Knights as they're off to an excellent 3-1 start on the season. The lone loss a seven-point setback to then No. 2 Bishop Garrigan.
"That's pretty much what is happening everywhere with the smaller schools and it's a tough deal. I know they wanted to play - it was their homecoming, but they had some injuries and just weren't able to field a competitive team," said Newman Head Coach, Rich McCardle.
Newman Catholic will play host to Postville on Sept. 28.
