New Mason City fire chief named

City Council to vote on appointment on July 17.

MASON CITY, Iowa – Jon Anderson has been selected as Mason City’s next Fire Chief.

Anderson, currently a Fire Captain with the department, will have his nomination presented to the Mason City City Council for their approval on July 17.

Doug Janssen has been serving as Interim Fire Chief since the position was vacated in late 2017 when Al Dyer resigned after being put on administrative leave for what was described as a “confidential personnel matter.”

Five candidates for the position were interviewed by city staff in June and an additional candidate was interviewed a few weeks later.

Anderson has been a member of the Mason City Fire Department for the past 21 years. If approved by the City Council, he will take over as Fire Chief on July 18.
