MASON CITY, Iowa- Tuesday is National day of Remembrance where families and friends who have lost someone to murder come together.
“Violence has definitely impacted our community,” said Nicole Hamilton Brahm, Violent Crime Coordinator with Crisis Intervention Services. “When you go a long time without seeing that you notice it even more.
Hamilton Brahm said between 1995-2016 there have been 272 deaths related to domestic violence alone. That is not even counting those who died at the hands of other types of violence.
She said she too is going through a very long recovery period after her husband’s sister was murdered.
“I don’t know if that process is ever done,” she said. “I don’t think there ever is a start and end time when you lose somebody.”
