HAMPTON, Iowa – Questions surround a substance found at a Franklin County school.
KIMT learned that parents of students were sent a text message Monday morning around 9:20 am about a “powdery substance” being found at North Side Elementary. The text said the substance was turned over to the Hampton Police Department and that the school district says the North Side grounds were considered “safe.”
At roughly the same time as the text, a post to the Hampton-Dumont Community School District’s Facebook page said the substance had been found over the weekend and a search of the North Side school grounds turned up no other substances. Anyone with information about this matter was urged to contact the Hampton Police Department.
Hampton Police Chief Robert Schaefer says that as of Monday afternoon, they remain unsure of what the substance actually is. He says it will need to be sent to a lab for analysis but he adds that it is not “powdery.”
