Mason City man pleads not guilty to child sex abuse

MASON CITY, Iowa – A man accused of sexually abusing an eight-year-old child is pleading not guilty.

Russell Neil Leverne, 61 of Mason City, is charged with three counts of 2nd degree sexual abuse. Mason City police say Leverne abused the child multiple times between June and July of 2018. He was arrested on August 15 and remains in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Leverne’s trial is set to begin on October 16.
