ALBERT LEA, Minn. – A man with multiple felony convictions is facing more charges in Freeborn County.
28-year-old Christopher Lynn Wright was arrested after what police call a routine traffic stop Saturday in Albert Lea. An officer says the vehicle had out-of-state plates that went with another make of car.
When questioning Wright, the driver, the officer said he detected a strong smell of marijuana from the vehicle. A search found two handguns in a black bag, a black machete with sheath, 30.6 grams of marijuana, 1.9 grams of methamphetamine, several cell phones, and approximately $1000 in cash.
Albert Lea police say one of the handguns had an unreadable serial number.
According to the criminal complaint, Wright claimed responsibility for all the guns, drugs, and cash in the vehicle. He’s been charged with 3rd degree possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.
Authorities say Wright has previous convictions for three counts of 2nd degree burglary, two counts of 1st degree burglary, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence.
