Luck decides two elections in Kossuth County

Names drawn from a hat to pick two winners.

ALGONA, Iowa – Not one but two Kossuth County elections have been decided by the luck of the draw.

The County Board of Supervisors met Monday to determine the winners in two tied races, one for an at-large seat on the Lone Rock City Council and the other for mayor of LuVerne.

The names of city council candidates Jim Cejka and Letty Henriksen were placed it a hat and Henriksen’s name was drawn to be the new councilperson in Lone Rock. The names of mayoral candidates Dennis E. Holmes and Kevin McPeak were then placed in a hat and McPeak’s name was drawn as the new mayor of LuVerne.
