Kasson's 'Freedom Rock' is in progress

The rock is the first of its kind in Minnesota.

KASSON, Minn. — Artist Ray 'Bubba' Sorensen II expects to complete the Kasson American Legion's Freedom Rock sometime this weekend.

Sorensen has painted Freedom Rocks, giant boulders with patriotic murals, in 74 Iowa counties. His goal is to have one in every Iowa county, and one in every U.S. state. "I've got Iowa that I'm still working on and hope to finish in the next couple years, and then I'm  also working on the 50 state tour too so I just kind of sprinkle in the states as I'm completing Iowa," he explains.

The rock features Minnesota-related military images, including a scene of the First Minnesota of Wasioja in Gettysburg.
