ROCHESTER, Minn. – Flames destroyed a garage Thursday afternoon.

The Rochester Fire Department says it was called to the 1600 block of 8 ½ Street SE around 2:11 pm. Firefighters arrived to find a detached garage ablaze. People in the adjacent home were evacuated as crews extinguished the fire.

The fire started in a plastic trash container that was outside against the garage wall. Ashes from a fire pit had been dumped into the container before being fully put out and fire spread to the garage.

The Fire Department says the garage is considered a total loss with about $25,000 in damage.

No one was injured in this incident.
