MASON CITY, Iowa- Firework retailers are popping up all over Mason City and according to the Mason City Fire Department, there are still more to come.
Alyssa Petersen of Forest City was out Monday checking out one of the 16 different places you can purchase fireworks in Mason City. According to the fire department, the group who give the final OK to sell, that is double the amount of sellers from last year.
As of Monday, there are two sites that have not yet met the state qualifications in order to be able to sell fireworks, but Petersen said she likes all of the different options.
“Fireworks are kind of a huge event here,” said Petersen. “It’s time to celebrate with your family so I think it’s kind of a good thing to have all of these options.”
The Mason City Police Department said they have already received around 60 fireworks complaints since June 11. That is a week since retailors inside of a building could sell and two days before tent sales became legal.
