MASON CITY, Iowa – The cause of the Monday morning fire at Regency Place Apartments is still under investigation.
The Mason City Fire Department was called to 811 South Illinois Avenue around 3:49 am and arrived to find a 3rd floor balcony on fire. The flames had reached into the attic area of the building and master water streams were set up to extinguish the blaze.
Apartment residents were evacuated by Mason City police and firefighters.
Now, residents are trying to pick up the pieces after the fire. The Salvation Army would arrive on scene, and has been working with residents on how to move forward, such as temporary and permanent housing, rent and utility costs, replacing items destroyed in the fire, even being there for one's mental and spiritual health.
"It helps people have the footing to encounter some of the other things they have to go through," Captain Kenyon Sivels of the Salvation Army of North Iowa said.
The Salvation Army is currently seeking monetary donations. If you would like to donate, call 641-424-4031.
No injuries have been reported.
