What's in place in Minnesota?

Minnesota’s stay-at-home order went into effect March 27 at 11:59 p.m. and was in place until May 3 at 11:59 p.m. On April 30, Gov. Tim Walz extended the order until May 18. However, many businesses are being allowed to do curbside operations.

On May 13, Gov. Tim Walz said the state’s stay-at-home order will expire May 18 and will be replaced with an order continuing to encourage residents to stay close to home but allows for gatherings of families and friends of 10 people or less.

Retail stores and other main street businesses can operate at 50 percent occupancy as long as they have social distancing plans.

On May 20, Gov. Walz said that starting June 1, restaurants and bars may open outdoor dining as long as they adhere to proper social distancing. Walz said hair salons and barbershops may open with safety protocols.

What’s the status of schools?

Minnesota will have distance learning for the rest of the academic year. Schools closed March 18 and went to distance learning.

What’s in place in Iowa?

The state announced April 27 that 77 of its 99 counties can re-open with some restrictions as of May 1. That includes the re-opening of restaurants and religious gatherings.

On May 8, Iowa announces more openings, including campgrounds, drive-in movie theaters, tanning facilities and medical spas.

On May 13, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said additional businesses, like salons, massage parlors and barbershops, can re-open beginning May 15.

On May 22, movie theaters, zoos, museums and wedding reception venues can re-open.

On May 28, bars will be allowed to open for indoor and outdoor seating at 50 percent capacity.

Additionally, Reynolds announced that starting June 1, school-sponsored activities can resume.

What’s the status of schools?

Schools in Iowa will not reopen in the 2019-20 academic year.
