BYRON, Minn. - Early Advantage Developmental Child Care is now open after a multi-million dollar expansion and remodel. The project addresses the statewide need for more child care that's being felt in Byron.
"We would talk to parents who were very stressed they couldn't find childcare, that's one of the big reasons why obvious we decided yes, we should expand, to try to help meet that childcare need in our community better," Theresa Bahr, owner of Early Advantage Developmental Child Care, said.
Bahr said the demand got so high, the child care center had a waiting list. With the remodel project, the facility is now able to serve 84 more families and students. The expansion includes new classrooms, new cabinets and countertops, and outdoor space.
The renovations also include officers for teachers and a staff lounge. The childcare center is currently hiring and looking for more staff to help service more families.
"Staffing is always a big concern and something we really thought about before we did the expansion. Because you need to have the right kind of staff to have more children," Bahr said.
She said they are campaiging to recruit and retain more staff partly by treating employees well. The company even paid for five of its staff members to go through schooling to become teacher-qualified.
