CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A jury has found a Floyd County man guilty of 1st degree robbery.

37-year-old Donald Edward McIntyre of Charles City was arrested in December 2016. Authorities say that in December 2015, McIntyre confronted another man at a home in the 1200 block of E Street in Charles City. Police say the confrontation was over money.

McIntyre was accused of hitting the other man in the head with a club and then choking him nearly unconscious. Police say McIntyre left after the victim gave him around $100. Court documents state DNA on the club and a knife found at the scene matched McIntyre and footprints at the scene matched his boots.

A trial began Tuesday in Floyd County District Court and the jury returned a guilty verdict on Thursday.

McIntyre is scheduled to be sentenced on February 9, 2018. 1st degree robbery is a class “B” felony, punishable in Iowa by up to 25 years in prison.
