Charles City driver hits utility pole

Police say it happened before 1 am Sunday.

CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A driver has been cited for hitting a utility pole on Sunday.

Charles City police say it happened around 12:30 am in the 700 block of South Grand Avenue. Officers say Jeffery Mitchell, 51 of Charles City, was driving north when he went out of control and hit the pole. No injuries were reported but the crash caused an estimated $10,000 in damage.

Mitchell was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to provide insurance.
