CHARLES CITY, Iowa – Charles City police said Tuesday morning they have taken a report of a white male with a full reddish-brown beard stopping at houses claiming to be with the Department of Human Services.
It happened on the 600 block of 3rd Avenue across the street from Linda Quint.
“I would have called 911 immediately,” she said.
Quint said she had no idea about what happened to her neighbor, but said it’s terrifying to know.
“DHS doesn’t go door to door,” she said. “But if you don’t know that it is frightening.”
Her neighbor declined to go on camera with us, but says the man looked the part. They said he dressed up and carried a folder full of papers, but something didn’t add up. They then call their local DHS office who said they didn’t send someone over. That is when they called police.
Mason City and surrounding communities also took similar reports,” Charles City police said.
Police are reminding the public not to allow anyone into your house unless you know who they are. Anyone who sees something suspicious is asked to call 641-228-3366.
