Blizzard Warning
Areas Affected: Dodge; Fillmore; Mower; Olmsted

NWS LaCrosse (Southwestern Wisconsin, Southeastern Minnesota, and Northeast Iowa)
...Whiteout Conditions at Times for Portions of Southeast Minnesota and Northeast Iowa... Strong and gusty northwest winds will continue to provide areas of blowing and drifting snow, with the worst conditions and lowest visibility reported across portions of southeast Minnesota and northeast where whiteouts are occurring. Periods of greatly reduced visibility can also be expected along the higher ridge tops either side of the Mississippi River through the afternoon, though widespread blizzard conditions are not likely. If traveling through the afternoon and early evening, especially over the ridge tops or across southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, be prepared that driving will be difficult to even dangerous at times with very low visibility. Additionally, be aware that rapidly falling temperatures will allow any earlier wet roads to refreeze quickly. ...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Widespread blowing and drifting snow, with whiteout conditions at times, especially outside of cities and towns. Northwest winds gusting to 40 mph into late afternoon.

* WHERE...Portions of southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa.

* WHEN...Until 6 PM CST this evening.

* IMPACTS...Plan on dangerous travel conditions with significantly lowered visibility, particularly for open and unsheltered areas outside of towns. Wind chills as low as 20 below zero tonight could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling or blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel if at all possible. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.

NWS Minneapolis (Southern Minnesota)
...BLIZZARD WARNING CONTINUES FOR WEST CENTRAL, SOUTHWEST, AND SOUTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA... ...WINTER STORM WARNING CONTINUES FOR CENTRAL AND EASTERN MINNESOTA INTO WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN... .Surface observations and reports from the Minnesota Department of Transportation indicated whiteout conditions in open country in west central, southwest and south central Minnesota since this morning. Sustained wind speeds of 30 to 40 mph, with occasional gusts of 50 mph were occurring across west central, southwest and south central Minnesota since earlier this morning, and this trend will continue through the afternoon. Elsewhere across central and southern Minnesota, including west central Wisconsin, areas of blowing and drifting snow will continue through the afternoon, with occasional wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph. Most of the measurable snowfall has ended, but the blowing and drifting snow will continue across the region through the afternoon. In addition to the blowing and drifting snow, falling temperatures into the single digits above and below zero will lead to icy roads and very cold wind chills this afternoon. ...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions. No additional snow accumulations. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of central, south central, southwest and west central Minnesota.

* WHEN...Until 6 PM CST this evening.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. The very cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

NWS DesMoines (Central Iowa)
...Blizzard Conditions Continue Across Northern Iowa Today... .Potent northwest winds gusting to 45 to 50 mph will continue to cause blizzard conditions with widespread blowing and drifting snow across northern Iowa today. Whiteout conditions can be expected at times, especially in rural areas. Further south across central and southern Iowa, areas of blowing and drifting snow will still make travel difficult at times in rural areas due to the gusty northwest winds. Dangerously cold wind chill values well below zero are likely by late this afternoon and evening. ...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions with blowing and drifting snow, especially in rural areas. Strong gusty northwest winds to 50 mph. Wind chills of -20 to -25.

* WHERE...Northwest to north central, and west central Iowa.

* WHEN...Through 6 pm this evening.

* IMPACTS...No travel advised in many areas of northwest to north central Iowa due to snow and ice packed roads, combined with near zero visibility especially in rural areas. Gusty winds may damage tree limbs and power lines and lead to power outages.

Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
