WORTH COUNTY, Iowa – More than a year later, DNA has led to the arrest of a Joice man accused of sexual abuse.
Carlos Morales, 19, is being held on $10,000 bond in the Worth County Jail on a charge of third-degree sexual abuse.
On May 14, 2017, authorities were dispatched to the 4600 block of Yarrow Ave. northwest of St. Ansgar and talked to a female victim who was in and out of consciousness while Morales allegedly performed sex acts on her. The two had been sleeping in a car together, authorities said.
The victim, who told authorities she was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, the criminal complaint states.
After obtaining DNA evidence, authorities say Morales denied having sexual relations with the victim. On May 24 of this year, the DNA report from the sexual assault kit matched the DNA submitted by Morales.
Morales was arrested Wednesday.
