MASON CITY, Iowa - Tawny Symonds, who pled guilty to child endangerment after being accused of sexually abusing a child under the age of three while running an in-home daycare, was given a suspended sentence with no prison time Monday morning.
The sentence drew outrage from the victim's family.
“I feel like the plea deal was a slap in the face and that she really isn't learning anything from this - just how to get away with it the next time," the mother of a victim said.

“And all the stuff that I had to go through ... as a two-year-old little girl she never should have had to be tested for HIV, AIDS, anything at all or to be examined."
Symonds, 31, was given a five-year probation sentence and will not have contact with minors but is allowed to see her two kids.

Symonds, from Wells, Minnesota, was sentenced at the Law Enforcement Center on one count of child endangerment. She had two counts of a Class B felony for sexual abuse and a Class C felony for assault dismissed.
Symonds accepted an Alford Plea in the case.
“There is strong evidence of actual guilt when considering all of the evidence, including testimony of unrelated and independent witnesses and the charges against me,” the court document states.
She was charged in Dec. of 2016.
The child endangerment Alford plea is a Class D felony. The maximum she could have faced was five years in prison and a $750 fine.
