Weather Underground midday recap for Sunday, July 14, 2013.
Cool and rainy weather developed across much of the Central U.S. on Sunday as an upper low over the Midwest shifted toward the Southern Plains. This transition combined with warm and moist conditions already over the region translated into moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in parts of Kansas and Oklahoma into central and eastern Texas. Afternoon rainfall totals have ranged up to 1 inch with locally higher amounts. Flash Flood Watches were issued for north-central Texas in anticipation of additional rainfall through the evening.
Meanwhile, to the north, showers and thunderstorms continue in the Northern Plains and Minnesota as a cold front reached across the region. Periods of heavy rain became possible during the day due to moist and strong unstable environmental conditions. Flood Watches and Advisories were issued this afternoon.
In the East, ample tropical moisture streaming across the Southeast supported another round of scattered showers and organized thunderstorms with periods of locally heavy rainfall in already saturated areas. Flash Flood Warnings and Flood Watches continued in this region through the evening.
Finally, out West, monsoonal moisture streaming across the Four Corners triggered areas of showers and thunderstorms.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of 34 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a midday high of 107 degrees at Needles, Calif.
