Andre Iguodala scored a game-high 24
points, and Elton Brand added 21 points and seven rebounds, as the
Philadelphia 76ers routed the Minnesota Timberwolves, 119-97.
Both teams came in with season-high four-game winning streaks, but it was the
Sixers that continued to turn the corner in an otherwise disappointing season.
Lou Williams helped the cause with 16 points and seven assists off the bench,
while Thaddeus Young and Willie Green each scored 15 points for Philadelphia,
which made 61.4 percent from the field in the first half to build a 22-point
halftime lead.
Wayne Ellington, a Philadelphia-area native, led Minnesota with 16 points.
Corey Brewer and Jonny Flynn each netted 14 points, while Al Jefferson had 12
to go with 10 rebounds in the loss.
Philly was on top 30-23 after 12 minutes of play and embarked on a 15-0 run
early in the second frame to take control. Jason Smith had seven points on the
run and his three-point play capped it for a 45-25 lead three minutes in.
The difference reached as high as 57-35 on two Williams free throws at the
midway point of the quarter, and the hosts went into the locker room with a
healthy 73-51 lead.
Remembering the 20-point lead they squandered in Minnesota a few weeks ago,
the Sixers kept their foot on the gas in the third, as consecutive three-
pointers from Green and Iguodala yielded an 81-56 cushion with nine minutes
left in the quarter.
The 97-76 score after 36 minutes was never threatened in the fourth.
