Minnesota Twins infielder Nick Punto was scheduled to undergo wrist surgery in Phoenix on Friday.

Twins general manager Bill Smith described it as a "cleanup" procedure on his right wrist. Punto is expected to be ready for spring training.

In 125 games for Minnesota last season, Punto batted .228 with one home run and drove in 38 runs.

Meanwhile, catcher Jose Morales is expected to be sidelined until mid- March following surgery on his right wrist. Morales, who will serve as the backup to Joe Mauer, had surgery Thursday.

He appeared in 54 games last year, hitting .311 with seven RBI.
